THE LISMORE MUSIC FESTIVAL PRESENTS, THE BARBER OF SEVILLE BY G. ROSSINI

SAT 2nd & SUN 3rd LIVE AT LISMORE CASTLE @ 8.30pm

 The Lismore Music festival is a unique Summer Music, Opera Festival in the stunning town of Lismore and along the Blackwater River.which takes place each year on the June Bank Holiday weekend.

LMF is an eclectic mix of musical genres with classical music and opera at its core and is fast becoming a much anticipated annual event attracting music lovers and visitors to the region.  In two short years since its creation LMF has become a much sought after Summer Festival ticket on the Irish and International calendar, providing a weekend to indulge all the senses with music, food & wine, gardens, historic architecture and art.

The festival will present a new production of Gioachino Rossini’s much loved comic opera, The Barber of Seville, directed by Dieter Kaegi in the stunning surroundings of Lismore Castle and Gardens.  A new arrangement for chamber orchestra has been commissioned by LMF and has been especially arranged by Italian violinist and conductor Gianluca Febo for strings, flute, clarinet and harpsicord.  The production features an Irish and International cast including Puerto Rican Tenor Javier Abreu (Count Almaviva), Opera News described him as “…a natural Rossini singer,” – Turkish Soprano Pervin Chakar (Rosina) returns to Ireland following her role as  Fanny in  “La Cambiale di Matrimonio”  for the Wexford Festival in 2009 – Owen Gilhooly (Figaro) – American Bass Baritone Damon Nestor Ploumis (Bartolo) Gerard O’Connor (Don Basilio) – Sandra Oman (Berta) and Mark Duff (Fiorillo) along with a chorus of local singers and the LMF Chamber Orchestra featuring, Gianluca Febo (violin), Gillian Williams (violin), Lisa Dowdall (viola), Arun Rao (cello), Bill Dowdall (flute), Leonie Bluett (clarinet) and David Adams (harpsichord).

Patrons are encouraged to arrive early,  enjoy a 3 course opera picnic of bruschetta, poached salmon or chicken, mango and noodle salad with a Summer berry triffle prepared by Eunice Power with a glass of wine from the Power & Smullen Wine Merchants cellar in the romantic and magical surroundings of the castle gardens.  The organisers have also set up a Prosecco and Wine Bar within the castle walls for the weekend.
